Thermographic Inspection for Homes in KL & Selangor
Find Hidden Electrical Problems Before They Become Serious. Electrical problems do not always give you a warning. A loose connection, overloaded circuit, damaged cable or failing electrical component can continue working while gradually generating excessive heat. By the time you notice a burning smell, frequent tripping or a burnt component, the problem may already be serious.
At Tronica Engineering, we provide professional thermographic inspection services using thermal imaging cameras to identify abnormal heat patterns in electrical installations. We can inspect your DB box, MCBs, RCCBs, main switches, cable connections, power points, air-conditioner connections and other accessible electrical equipment without damaging your walls or wiring.
What Is a Thermographic Inspection?
Thermographic inspection uses an infrared thermal camera to detect temperature differences that may indicate an electrical problem. When a connection is loose, a circuit is overloaded, a terminal has high resistance or an electrical component is deteriorating, it may produce more heat than normal. Thermal imaging allows us to see these abnormal heat patterns and identify areas that may require further inspection, testing or repair.
What Can Thermal Imaging Detect?
Thermal inspection can help identify potential problems such as loose or high-resistance electrical connections, overheating MCBs, RCCBs and main switches, overloaded circuits, hot cable terminals and joints, poor electrical connections, overheating power points, air-conditioner connections and abnormal heat buildup inside DB boxes.
A thermal camera does not replace other electrical tests. It provides another useful way of identifying potential faults that may not be obvious during a normal visual inspection.
Why Is Thermographic Inspection Important?
Many electrical faults develop gradually. A loose terminal, for example, may continue supplying power while generating excessive heat whenever the circuit is being used. Over time, the connection can deteriorate further and potentially damage the terminal, cable or electrical equipment.
This is why an electrical system should not be judged simply by whether the lights and power points are working. Working does not always mean everything is safe or in good condition. Thermal inspection gives us a better view of what is happening inside the electrical system while it is operating.
When Should You Consider a Thermal Inspection?
Thermographic inspection can be useful if your property is older, has recently been renovated or has had additional electrical loads installed. You should also consider an inspection if you notice frequent tripping, burning smells, warm switches or sockets, flickering lights, repeated component failures or unusual electrical behaviour.
It is also useful for homes with several high-power appliances such as air conditioners, ovens, induction cookers, water heaters, washing machines and dryers. These additional loads can place greater demand on the electrical system, especially if the original wiring and circuit arrangement were not designed for the increased usage.
Thermal Inspection After Renovation
Renovation work can introduce additional electrical risks. New power points, lighting circuits, air-conditioner points and high-power appliances may be added by different contractors and subcontractors. During drilling, cutting, installation or modification work, existing cables can also be accidentally damaged.
A thermal inspection can help identify abnormal heating at accessible electrical connections and equipment after renovation. If we find something unusual, we can carry out further electrical testing to determine the actual cause.
Thermal Inspection for Your DB Box
The distribution board, or DB box, is one of the most important areas to inspect because it contains your main switch, MCBs, RCCBs and other protective devices and connections.
We check for abnormal temperature patterns around accessible components and cable terminals. If one connection is significantly hotter than comparable connections, it may indicate a loose connection, excessive load, high resistance or another issue that requires further investigation.
For example, an MCB may normally operate at around 31°C. If its temperature suddenly rises to 50°C or higher, that is a clear warning sign that something may be wrong. When we see a sudden temperature increase like this during a thermal inspection, we know the circuit or connection needs to be investigated immediately.
Thermal Inspection vs. a Test Pen
A test pen can indicate whether electrical voltage is present, but it cannot tell you whether a cable connection is overheating, whether a terminal has excessive heat buildup or whether an electrical component is operating at an abnormal temperature.
Thermal imaging provides a different type of information by showing temperature patterns. For a more complete electrical assessment, thermal imaging can be used together with appropriate testing such as RCD testing, insulation resistance testing, voltage testing and visual inspection, depending on the condition of the installation.
How Does the Inspection Work?
We start by inspecting the electrical installation and identifying the areas that need to be checked. We then use thermal imaging equipment to scan the DB box, protective devices, cable connections, power points and other accessible electrical equipment.
If we identify an abnormal hotspot, we investigate further instead of simply assuming that the hottest component is faulty. Depending on the situation, we may recommend additional testing such as a Megger Test, RCD testing, voltage testing, load checking or physical inspection of the connection.
If a fault is confirmed, we can also provide the necessary electrical repair, rewiring, DB box upgrade or component replacement.
We Don't Just Find the Problem. We Can Fix It.
At Tronica Engineering, we do not simply carry out a thermal scan and leave you to find another contractor if a problem is discovered. We also provide electrical troubleshooting and repair services, including DB box upgrades, MCB and RCCB replacement, loose connection repairs, house wiring and rewiring, Megger insulation resistance testing, RCD testing, earthing, surge protection and lightning protection.
We also provide autogate installation, wiring, rewiring and repair services, including troubleshooting for sliding motors, swing gate arms, control panels and related electrical systems.
