Electrical Troubleshooting & Repairs In KL & Selangor

Tronica Engineering offers electrical troubleshooting & electrical repair in KL & Selangor. Electrical faults can turn your safe, comfortable home into a stressful and even dangerous place. Whether your fuse board keeps tripping, your lights are flickering or you smell something burning near a socket, you know something’s wrong, but you might not know where to start. That’s where we come in. We are professional wireman and elektrik repairer serving homes across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. We have hands-on experience, diagnostic tools and strict safety procedures to find and fix electrical problems quickly, correctly and permanently. We don’t guess. We investigate, isolate and solve. And most importantly, we truly care about keeping your home and family safe.

Too many homeowners ignore small electrical issues, assuming they’re just minor annoyances. But what may look like a flickering light or a buzzing switch can actually be an early warning sign of a serious electrical problem. Electrical faults can escalate silently and suddenly, leading to short circuits, fires or total system failure. That’s why proper diagnostics and skilled repair matter. Not just for convenience, but for your family’s safety.

Murah Tapi Bahaya, Why People Can Do Cheap Wiring?

We’ve helped thousands of homeowners troubleshoot their wiring and fix all sorts of electrical issues and here’s what we keep seeing: many people hire cheap foreign workers, because they offer a low price and always say “Boss, boleh boleh, I boleh buat, I kasih harga murah.” But the truth is, most of them don’t know our Malaysian standards. They just want to close the deal and rush through the job without caring if it’s done properly. No proper testing, no safety checks, no proper piping. They simply join leftover wires, use different types of cables that aren’t meant to work together and make wire joints without proper termination. Most of the time, they just wrap the wires with electrical tape without using proper cable links or heat shrink tubing. Over time, the tape becomes oily, the wires get loose and this can lead to sparking and in many cases, fires.

Everything may look fine on the outside but behind the walls and ceilings, it’s a complete mess. That kind of shortcut work is dangerous, it can lead to power trips, equipment failure or even house fires. In the end, we’re the ones who get called in to fix what they left behind. Don’t take chances with your home and family, use a local malaysian wireman who follows the right standards and does the job safely from the start.

Don’t Be Cheap. Yes, We’re Talking About You!

Actually, we’ve come across a few types of customers when it comes to wiring and renovation work. The first type simply doesn’t have much budget to spend on renovation, so they try to save wherever they can, including electrical work. They try to stay optimistic, hoping the foreign worker they hired will do a decent job. Sometimes, they can clearly see the workmanship isn’t right, wires left exposed, piping not done properly, but they choose to close one eye because of their tight budget. So they accept the risk and just hope nothing goes wrong. But the truth is, electrical issues don’t show up immediately. It may take months or even years before problems start appearing. By then, fixing it will cost even more and the safety risk is far greater.

The second type does have the money, but they only want to spend on things that their friends and relatives can see, like a nice sofa, a fancy front entrance or a stylish kitchen. Unfortunately, when it comes to hidden items like electrical wiring, aircond pipes or water pipes, they’ll go for the cheapest materials and workmanship just to save some money. Later, when things start going wrong, they call back the same foreign wireman to fix the problems. But the truth is, he doesn’t even know how to use a multimeter or proper testing tools. He can’t find the root cause, so the issue just drags on or gets worse. Then they call us in to fix the mess and try to shift the blame to the contractors they hired. But honestly, you don’t even need to tell us anything. From the first conversation, we can already tell whether you cut corners or you genuinely got cheated.

What they don’t realise is that the hidden parts are what actually protect the home and keep everything running safely. Looks can impress, but safety is what really matters. It’s sad but true, some people are just not willing to spend on things that actually protect their children, wife, or family. When it comes to proper wiring, safety devices or anything hidden behind the walls, they say “no budget.” But the same people have no problem spending hundreds or thousands in pubs, cafés, nice cars or on their “girlfriends”. Priorities are completely misplaced. Your family lives in that house. Your kids sleep in those rooms. And yet you’re cutting corners on the one thing that keeps them safe from fire, shock and other electrical risks. At the end of the day, what matters more, a flashy night out or making sure your home won’t burn down because of cheap wiring?

Common Electrical Problems We Troubleshoot

We’ve seen it all from hidden wire joints buried behind fresh plaster to missing earth connections and unsafe shortcuts that put your family at risk. These issues often come from low-cost wiremen who “play magic” behind the walls, using low quality wires, taking dangerous shortcuts just to finish the job faster.

The truth is, no two homes are alike. Every renovation hides its own secrets and the problems may not appear until it’s too late. Over time, poor workmanship can lead to serious risks such as frequent tripping, overheating components or even electric shocks. Each home presents a unique scenario, which is why a proper inspection and diagnosis is important. You may call Tronica Engineering if you need a reliable wireman to troubleshoot for your electrical problems.

Why Are So Many Homeowners Facing Electrical Problems?

In many cases, it starts with hiring the wrong person to do the electrical wiring and installation. We’ve seen wiring contractors cut corners to save on materials, labour and time, while the homeowner has no idea what is actually happening behind the walls. For example, you may be charged RM650 for an aircond point, expecting the wiring to be properly installed with live, neutral and earth connections. But instead of doing the job properly according to the circuit design, some contractors simply tap the earth connection from a nearby socket or lighting point because it is easier and saves cable. Then they tell the customer, “Boss, all the earth wires are connected together anyway.” Yes, the earthing system is interconnected, but that does not mean you can simply take an earth connection from anywhere without considering the circuit arrangement, conductor size, continuity and proper protection. The aircond may work perfectly and everything may look fine, but the hidden wiring could be another story. Electrical work is not just about making the power come on. It is about installing the system correctly, safely and properly testing it before handing the house back to you.

Real Case Study: Electrical Problems in a Sentul Condominium

Two days ago, we helped an Australian couple inspect the wiring, MCB, main switch, DB, and RCCB at their condo unit in the Sentul area. The unit hasn’t been occupied yet, no kitchen, no home appliances, nothing installed, completely empty. But the moment they turned on the lights, the power tripped and shut down the entire house. The foreign wireman they hired told them it was because the circuit was using a 32A fuse and claimed it was overloaded. His solution? Replace it with a 63A fuse at the TNB meter. That advice is completely wrong and dangerous.

How can turning on just a few lights in an empty unit cause an overload? It doesn’t make any sense. Lights, especially LEDs, use very minimal power. If the power is tripping from something that small, there’s clearly a deeper issue. Increasing the fuse rating without identifying the root cause is not only unprofessional, it’s a serious fire hazard. In this case, it wasn’t overloading. It was faulty wiring, improper joints and leakage current that were tripping the RCCB. Luckily, the owners got us in before they moved in. We did proper testing, traced the actual fault and identified the real issue.

We arrived at the unit around 2pm and immediately began the troubleshooting process. About an hour later, the Bangladeshi wireman showed up at 3pm. He walked in with full confidence, smiling, acting like it was just a small issue that could be settled with a quick fix. You know what we found He actually ran the wiring without putting them inside UPVC conduit. The wires were directly laid and exposed with no proper protection at all. The earth wires were tapped dangerously from the nearest socket point. Some sockets didn’t even have an earth wire connected. And the so-called “Mega Kabel” he promised? Nowhere to be seen. He used cheap, unbranded cables. Mega Kabel is a trusted and high quality brand.

Even worse, two separate sets of wires were sharing a single MCB. And he did this on around 9 different MCBs which means all the newly added socket points, oven point and water heater point were installed without their own dedicated MCBs. That’s dangerous. And the water heater circuit? No RCCB protection at all. This means if there’s a leakage or fault in the heater, there’s no safety device to protect the user from electric shock. This wasn’t just poor workmanship. It was dangerous, dishonest and completely irresponsible.

Let me summarise what we found:

  • Wires were not run in UPVC conduit, they were exposed without protection
  • Earth wires were simply tapped from nearby sockets, not properly installed
  • Some sockets had no earth wire connected at all
  • The “Mega Kabel” he promised was not used, only cheap, unbranded wires
  • Wire joints were just wrapped with tape, no proper connectors or heat shrink
  • About 9 MCBs were shared between multiple circuits, no separate MCBs for new sockets, oven, or water heater
  • The water heater had no RCCB protection, which is dangerous and can cause electric shock

Our Electrical Troubleshoot & Repair Services

Frequent DB Trips & Fuse Box Issues

If your DB box keeps tripping, whether it’s an MCB or an RCCB, it’s not just a nuisance. It’s a message from your electrical system telling you something is wrong. A DB trip can be caused by overloaded circuits, faulty appliances, exposed wires or even water leakage. To deal with your MCB or RCCB keep tripping problems, we don’t just flip the switch and walk away. We perform live testing, insulation resistance checks and system diagnostics to find the root cause. We look at your RCCBs, MCBs and distribution layout to make sure your board is protecting you as it should. Your MCB tripping is trying to warn you. We know how to interpret that warning and make things safe again.

Socket & Lighting Issues

Are your lights flickering, sockets not working or switches behaving strangely? These may seem like small problems but they often point to loose wiring, burnt terminals or deeper circuit faults inside your walls. We isolate the issue with detailed inspection and testing. Then we repair it safely, not with tape or shortcuts, but by replacing damaged sections and ensuring proper termination. A reliable lighting and power system is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Your home should function the way it’s supposed to, every time you flip a switch.

Overheating Wires & Burning Smells

That strange burning smell near a plug or switch is a serious red flag. It can signal overloaded wiring, loose contacts or even melting insulation, all of which are common causes of electrical fires. If you smell something burning, don’t wait. Turn off power to the affected area and call us immediately. We are trained to identify overheating cables and replace damaged wires before they cause disaster. In many cases, poor workmanship during previous renovations is to blame. We’ll fix the source, not just the symptom.

Short Circuits & Neutral Faults

When your power trips immediately after switching something on, it may indicate a short circuit or neutral fault. These are among the most dangerous electrical problems and they require careful tracing by experienced wireman. We use insulation resistance testers, voltage testers and live fault simulation to find the problem without tearing up your walls. Our troubleshooting methods are professional and effective. No guessing games, just proven techniques backed by training and experience.

Earthing System Installation & Faults

Malaysia’s high humidity and frequent thunderstorms make a reliable earthing system important for every home. Without proper grounding, your appliances such as autogate, router, water heaters, fridges or washing machines can deliver electric shocks or cause your DB to trip, especially during heavy rain. Worse, a faulty earth system can turn metal surfaces like pipework or gate frames dangerously live.

We provide professional earthing system installation and testing for both new and existing homes. Using earth resistance testers and other testers, we trace problems accurately. Whether it’s a corroded earth rod, poor bonding, or missing connections, we’ll find and fix it. In lightning-prone areas like Subang and Kajang, the risk is even higher. That’s why we use trusted materials from proven brands like Taipoly and ensure your earth resistance meets safety standards.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Let us test your earthing system, verify continuity, and upgrade it if needed to ensure your family stays safe even when lightning strikes. Call Alex 012 – 870 2699 today to schedule your earthing inspection.

Thermographic Inspections

We use thermal imaging to spot invisible electrical faults. This advanced tool lets us “see the heat” literally. By scanning your DB box, cable joints and appliances we can detect overheating spots, loose terminals and overloaded components well before they fail. Thermal inspections are quick, non-invasive and extremely accurate. It’s ideal if you’ve just moved into a new property or if you want to assess your system’s reliability after years of use. Preventative maintenance like this can save you thousands in repairs and damage.

Cable Tracing

Have a power point that suddenly stopped working? Planning a renovation and unsure where your wires? Don’t risk guesswork or unnecessary wall hacking. Our professional cable and pipe tracing service helps you locate hidden electrical wires, power cables and conduits, even if they’re buried deep inside walls, floors, ceilings or underground. Using advanced cable tracing and signal detection equipment, we can pinpoint the exact location of live, broken or damaged wires without damaging your property. Whether the issue is a wire accidentally drilled through, a missing junction box or unclear conduit routing from past renovations, we’ll trace it out clearly and explain what’s going on.

This service is especially useful for older homes, properties with undocumented wiring or during kitchen and bathroom upgrades. We help you uncover problems before you start hacking tiles, walls or concrete, saving you time, money and headaches. Don’t leave it to chance. Let us find the real source of your electrical problem accurately and non-destructively.

Lightning Protection & SPD Solutions

Malaysia experiences thousands of lightning strikes every year and without proper lightning protection, your home is vulnerable. We offer installation of Surge Protection Devices (SPD) and lightning arrestors that help direct energy safely into the earthing system instead of damaging your electronics or causing fire.

If your house often experiences power trips during thunderstorms, there’s a high chance your system lacks proper surge protection. Talk to us about upgrading your board with Type 2 SPD, coordinated with your MCB and RCCB setup for maximum protection.

Aircond Switch and Wiring Repair

Having problems turning on your air conditioner at home? The problem may not always be the aircond unit itself. Sometimes, there may be an electrical problem with the aircond switch, wiring, MCB or electrical connection. For example, you may find that there is no power at the aircond switch, so the aircond cannot be turned on at all. In other cases, the power may trip soon after you switch on the aircond. Some homeowners may also notice a burning smell from the aircond switch or wiring when the aircond starts running. This can be a warning sign of an overheating connection, damaged wiring or a faulty switch and should not be ignored. Another common problem is when the aircond works normally at first but causes the power to trip after running for one or two hours. This may indicate a fault that appears when the system becomes hot or has been operating for some time. At Tronica Engineering, we can inspect the aircond switch, wiring, electrical connections and circuit to help identify the cause of the problem and recommend the appropriate repair or replacement.

Water Heater Switch and Wiring Repair

A water heater needs proper electrical wiring and a suitable switch because it is used in a wet area. If the switch, wiring or connections are old or damaged, there may be a risk of electrical leakage, overheating or electric shock while taking a shower. For this reason, we recommend checking the water heater switch and wiring if they have been used for many years, especially if you notice a burning smell, loose switch, heat around the switch, frequent power trips or other unusual problems.

We have also seen houses where the water heater shares an MCB with other electrical appliances, such as an air conditioner point. This type of wiring arrangement may not be suitable, depending on the electrical load and existing installation. A water heater normally requires a properly sized circuit, cable and protection device based on its power rating.

If your water heater switch or wiring is old, damaged or showing signs of a problem, it is better to have it inspected by Alex. We can check the existing wiring, switch, MCB and connections, then recommend the necessary repair or replacement to improve electrical safety.

Don’t Act Smart Just Because You Got a Cheap Deal

That strange burning smell near a plug point or switch is a serious red flag. It often means overloaded wiring, loose contacts or melting insulation, all of which are common causes of electrical fires. If you smell something burning, don’t wait. Turn off the power to the affected area and call us immediately. We are ready to detect overheating cables, trace the fault and replace damaged wiring before it leads to disaster. In many cases, the real cause is poor workmanship from previous renovations, where shortcuts were taken to save time or money. We don’t just patch the problem, we fix it at the source. Sadly, we’ve seen too many homeowners accept cheap quotations, thinking they got the best deal. They believe they’ve saved money, but in reality, they’ve unknowingly created a major safety risk in their own home.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch. You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. What they thought was a “good deal” turns into a ticking timebomb just waiting to go off. Imagine this: it’s the middle of the night, you’re fast asleep and suddenly your house catches fire because of overheating wires. Even worse, your doorbell isn’t working and your neighbours can’t wake you up in time. You think you saved money, but the truth is, you walked straight into a trap. Going for the cheapest quotation doesn’t make you clever. It puts your family at risk. Cheap work often means poor materials, unsafe wiring and hidden dangers waiting to explode.

Stop being stingy when it comes to safety. If you truly love your family and your children, give them a home that’s safe to live in. Don’t wait for disaster to strike before you realise that “cheap” comes at a heavy price. Don’t gamble with your family’s safety. Let us inspect, trace, and fix your wiring properly before it’s too late.

Before You Move In, Get Your Home Wiring Inspected

Now, let’s talk about home wiring inspection. Whether you are buying a house, moving into a new home, or living in an older property, it is a good idea to have the electrical system inspected before moving in. This is especially important if you notice frequent DB trips, burning smells, loose sockets, or other signs of electrical problems. Even if everything looks fine, hidden wiring defects may not be visible without proper testing.

It is better to inspect first than to move in and discover problems later. Finding electrical issues early can help you plan the necessary repairs before your furniture and belongings are moved in. It may also help you avoid unexpected repair costs and reduce potential safety risks. If you suspect something is wrong with your wiring, or simply want peace of mind before moving in, contact a wireman to inspect and test your electrical system.

An Electrical Safety Inspection Does Not Always Mean Rewiring

Having an electrical safety inspection does not mean your whole house needs to be rewired. In many cases, the existing wiring may still be suitable and only certain switches, connections, MCBs, RCCBs or damaged sections need attention. An inspection helps identify which parts are in good condition and which areas may need repair or improvement. This can help homeowners avoid replacing everything unnecessarily and focus on the actual electrical problems found in the house.

Check First Before Spending More on Electrical Work

Some electrical problems are not visible from the outside, and it can be difficult for a homeowner to know what is actually causing the problem. For example, frequent MCB tripping could be caused by an overloaded circuit, faulty appliance, damaged wiring or a loose connection. Instead of simply changing the breaker or replacing wiring without checking, it is better to inspect and test the circuit first. This gives you a clearer understanding of the condition of your electrical system and allows you to decide what work is really necessary.

Home Wiring Inspection – Is Your Electrical System Still Safe?

Many homeowners assume that if their old home has been running “fine” for years, there’s no reason to inspect the wiring. But electrical systems, like everything else in a home, age and degrade over time. Wires get oxidised, insulation dries and cracks, copper becomes brittle and connections corrode. Some electrical wires use pure copper, which is highly conductive and resistant to corrosion. But cheaper wires are often made by mixing copper with other metals like aluminum or tin. These mixed-metal wires tend to oxidise or rust over time, especially in Malaysia’s humid weather. The result? Poor conductivity, overheating, and increased risk of fire.

When oxidation builds up inside the cable, it can cause voltage drop, MCB tripping or even complete failure of your electrical circuit. That is why we always recommend using high-quality pure copper cables for all wiring jobs, especially when upgrading an old DB box or rewiring an older home.

But the problem doesn’t stop at just the wiring. Some MCBs and ELCBs may no longer trip properly because their internal mechanisms are already faulty or worn out. We’ve seen cases where the switch feels loose, doesn’t stay in the OFF position, or fails to respond when there’s an actual fault. This is extremely dangerous because it gives a false sense of protection. You think you’re safe, but the breaker isn’t doing its job.

These hidden issues can pose serious risks, from frequent tripping of the DB box to electrical fires. If your home is more than 20 years old or you’ve recently moved into a pre-owned house, it’s time to schedule a professional old home wiring inspection. At Tronica Engineering, we specialize in detecting wiring issues that may be hiding behind your walls, ceilings or consumer units before they turn into costly disasters.

New Home Wiring Inspection Before You Move In

A new home does not automatically mean the electrical wiring is safe and properly installed.

This applies to:

  • Newly built houses
  • Newly renovated houses
  • Extension or renovation projects
  • Newly purchased houses
  • Pre-owned houses that have recently been renovated

During construction or renovation, electrical wiring can be installed, modified or damaged by different contractors and subcontractors.

Additional electrical circuits may also have been added for modern appliances such as:

  • Air conditioners
  • Water heaters
  • Microwaves & Ovens
  • Induction cookers
  • Washing machines
  • Dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • EV chargers
  • Autogates
  • Other high-power appliances

If the wiring, connections, cable sizes or circuit protection are not properly matched to the actual electrical load, problems may only appear after you move in and start using everything.

You may experience:

  • MCB keeps tripping
  • RCCB trips randomly
  • Lights flicker
  • Power points stop working
  • Certain appliances cause the breaker to trip
  • Burning smell from sockets or DB box
  • Overheating electrical connections

Another common problem is concealed wiring damaged during renovation. For example, a nail or screw may penetrate an electrical cable. An air-conditioner installer, plumber or renovation contractor may accidentally drill or cut into an existing cable. Sometimes the person who caused the damage may not realise it. Sometimes they may know something happened but do not report it because they are worried about being blamed. The renovation continues and the damaged cable remains hidden. The problem may only appear later as repeated tripping, leakage, overheating or an electrical fault. That is why a new or renovated home should not simply be judged by whether all the lights and sockets are working.

A proper inspection can include checking the distribution board, main switch, MCBs, RCCBs, wiring, sockets, switches, earthing, high-load circuits and visible electrical connections. Where appropriate, electrical testing such as insulation resistance testing using a Megger can also help identify problems that cannot be seen during a normal visual inspection.

If an MCB keeps tripping, do not simply change a C16 or C20 breaker to C32 just to stop the tripping. The cable size, circuit design, connected load and protection should be checked first. A higher-rated breaker is not a proper solution if the existing wiring is not suitable for the higher current. It is better to identify and correct the actual problem before moving all your furniture into the house and using multiple high-power appliances.

Why Older Homes Are More at Risk

Homes built before the 2000s were wired with older materials and based on standards that may no longer meet today’s safety requirements. Over time, these systems become vulnerable due to several key factors:

1. Aged Wiring Insulation

Most older homes used PVC or rubber-based insulation that hardens and cracks over time. When insulation fails, wires can touch each other or the metal casing, leading to short circuits or even fire.

2. Overloaded Circuits

Back then, homes didn’t have to support dozens of modern appliances like air conditioners, water heaters, induction cookers, EV chargers, or smart systems. Older wiring was not designed to carry such high current loads. Overloaded circuits become a fire risk very quickly.

3. Outdated Consumer Units

Old DB boxes may still use fuse holders instead of MCBs, and many have no RCCB or RCBO protection. Without these important safety devices, there is no proper fault detection or earth leakage protection in place.

4. Corrosion and Loose Connections

Over time, wire terminals can corrode or become loose, especially in areas with high humidity. These loose connections generate heat and often lead to melting wires, burnt switches or even arc faults.

5. Unauthorized DIY Wiring

We often find “rojak wiring” done by previous homeowners. This includes DIY work or unqualified wiremen using random cables, mismatched components and unsafe practices that go undetected for years.

Why Your Home Wiring Is a Time Bomb

This is a common problem in many homes. During renovation, the main contractor subcontracts the electrical work to a wireman and squeezes him to lower the price. To make profit from such as low price, most wiremen in Malaysia use dirty tactics like leftover wires from other jobs, looping here and there and connecting too many points in one loop. They also install low-quality materials and components. When electrical got issues later, the original wireman and the contractor are usually nowhere to be found. And most probably they change their tel numbers. Either because they charged the owner a very low price or the owner didn’t make the final payment and both parties ended up arguing. In the end, the homeowner is left stranded and has to call another wireman to fix the mess. The owner has no choice but to look for a new wireman to fix the problem. But instead of telling the truth, the new wireman just keeps quiet and does a quick, temporary fix. For example, they change the MCB from C20 to C32 so it won’t trip anymore. Or they replace the RCCB with a 300mA unit, which delays or ignores smaller leakage currents that could still be dangerous.  But that also means when there’s a fault, it still won’t trip, putting your home and family at serious risk.

What Does an Old Home Wiring Inspection Involve?

A proper wiring inspection goes far beyond flipping a few switches or replacing a broken socket. Our team at Tronica Engineering follows a systematic, multi-step process designed to uncover hidden faults and assess the overall safety of your electrical installation.

1. Visual Assessment

We start by visually inspecting accessible wiring, switches, sockets, lights, fans, DB box, and external fittings. We look for:

  • Discoloration or burn marks
  • Loose or exposed wiring
  • Outdated fuse holders or screw-in breakers
  • Improperly mounted DB components
  • Signs of overheating or moisture damage

2. Testing Socket Outlets

Using professional socket testers, we check for:

  • Reversed polarity
  • Missing earth connections
  • Voltage fluctuations
  • Poor contact or sparking

Even one faulty outlet in the wrong place, such as a kitchen or bathroom, can put your safety at risk.

3. DB Box Inspection

We inspect your consumer unit or distribution board for:

  • Correct MCB and RCCB sizing
  • Proper segregation of lighting and power circuits
  • Functional earth leakage protection
  • Secure wiring connections
  • Evidence of heat or burning inside

In older homes, we often find:

  • DB boxes without RCCBs or with broken ones
  • Overloaded or oversized MCBs

4. Insulation Resistance Test (Megger Test)

One of the most important tests for old wiring is the Megger test, which checks whether the wire insulation can still prevent current leakage. Cables with low insulation resistance are dangerous and must be replaced. We perform this test across multiple circuits to ensure each cable is still safe to use.

5. Earth Continuity Test

A proper earthing system is crucial to safely redirect any fault current. We test for:

  • Earth continuity from DB box to every power point
  • Correct bonding of metal appliances (e.g., water heater, metal sink)
  • Earth resistance readings

Missing or broken earth wires are common in old homes and can lead to electric shock.

6. Load Testing and Capacity Review

We assess whether your current wiring system can handle modern electrical loads. Many old homes still use 1.0mm² or 1.5mm² cables for power points, which are not suitable for high-load appliances. We advise if rewiring is needed or if upgrades like new DBs or RCBOs should be considered.

Common Issues Found in Old Homes

Here are the most frequent problems we uncover during old home wiring inspections:

  • No RCCB or RCBO protection
  • Brittle, cracked, or melted cable insulation
  • Outdated fuse-based DB boxes
  • Overloaded sockets with multi-point extensions
  • Reversed polarity at outlets
  • Loose or corroded terminals
  • Earth wires with no continuity
  • Live wires left unused inside walls or ceilings
  • Undersized cables running heavy appliances
  • Electrical fittings with exposed conductors
  • “Rojak wiring” done by previous owners or foreign workers
  • Light points without junction boxes
  • Improperly grounded water heaters or ovens
  • C32 MCBs used instead of C20 to avoid tripping – hides real faults
  • No 10mA RCCB for water heaters

Even if your home has not experienced visible electrical issues yet, these hidden dangers are silently increasing your risk of fire, equipment damage, or shock.

Why You Shouldn’t Ignore the Signs

Even minor symptoms like flickering lights, warm switches or occasional DB trips are red flags in an older home. Electrical faults often build up over time and become more dangerous if left unchecked.

A wire that’s partially damaged today could become fully exposed tomorrow. A circuit breaker that trips occasionally might one day fail to trip when it matters most. Electricity gives no warning before disaster strikes.

When to Schedule A Home Wiring Inspection

  • Before Renovation: Don’t upgrade your kitchen or extend your home without checking the wiring first
  • After Buying a Used House: Don’t assume the previous owner’s “renovation” was done right
  • Before Installing Heavy Appliances: Water heaters, induction cookers, and air conditioners need proper cables
  • When You Notice Frequent DB Trips: This could be an early sign of insulation failure or overloading
  • Every 5 to 10 Years: Even without symptoms, a periodic check ensures your home wiring stays reliable

When Cheap Electrical Work Becomes a Dangerous Mistake

Many homeowners avoid inspections or rewiring because they fear it will be too expensive. But what’s really costly is waiting until something goes wrong. Replacing a burnt DB box, damaged wiring or a fried appliance can easily cost several thousand ringgit. That doesn’t include the safety risk to your family.

We’ve seen cases where foreign workers or cheap contractors installed wiring that looked okay on the surface but behind the wall, wires were joined without junction boxes, with no earthing, and poor-quality RCCBs that failed to trip. You get what you pay for. A proper inspection protects your investment and your loved ones.

Why Do You Feel a Shock When Touching Home Appliances?

We’ve helped thousands of homeowners inspect their electrical systems and one of the most common issues we find is poor or missing earthing. Many houses have dangerously high earth resistance, sometimes over 200 to 500 ohms. Without proper grounding, touching your fridge, oven, or even a water heater can result in an electric shock. If you’ve ever felt a zap when touching an appliance, it’s not normal. It’s a serious warning sign. Let us help you check and fix it before it becomes a real danger.

If this is what’s happening to you, don’t worry. We are professional earth solutions provider. We can come and check your earthing resistance reading. If the value is too high, we can install a proper earthing rod, connect the earth wire to your DB box and link everything to a proper earth pit chamber. This will significantly reduce your risk of electric shock and ensure your home meets safety standards.
