Most of us only think about the electrical system at home when something goes wrong. The lights suddenly go off. The Main Switch keeps tripping. One room has no electricity. A power point becomes warm. Or you keep resetting the switch, but the problem comes back again. These are common electrical problems that homeowners may face.
Sometimes the problem is simple. But if it keeps happening, it is better to get a Wireman or electrician to check the cause instead of simply resetting the switch again and again.
1. Power Keeps Tripping
One of the most common electrical problems at home is a power trip. You may switch on the aircond, water heater, kettle or another appliance, and suddenly the electricity goes off.
There can be different reasons for this. It could be a faulty appliance, too many appliances on the same circuit, a wiring problem or a problem with the protection devices in the DB Box. If the power keeps tripping, don’t just keep switching it back on without finding out why.

2. Main Switch Keeps Tripping

Older houses may still be using wiring that has been in place for many years. At the same time, the electrical needs of the family may have increased. More air conditioners, water heaters, kitchen appliances and other electrical items may have been added.

6. Need More Power Points?
Another common problem is simply not having enough power points.When a house was first built, the number of electrical appliances may have been much lower.

Instead of using too many extension plugs, homeowners can consider adding proper power points or electrical points. However, the existing wiring and circuit should be checked before adding new points.
7. Electrical Problems After Renovation
Renovation is another time when homeowners may need a Wireman. You may want to move a light, add new sockets, install more aircond points, add a water heater point or change the electrical layout.
Before adding new points, it is important to look at the existing electrical system and wiring. This helps make sure the new work is suitable for the house and its current electrical needs.
When Should You Call a Wireman?
You don’t need to wait until the whole house loses electricity before calling a Wireman.
It is a good idea to get help when:
- The same power trip keeps happening
- The Main Switch keeps tripping
- A socket or switch becomes hot
- You notice a burning smell or sparks
- Part of the house has no electricity
- You have an old house and want to check the wiring
- You need more power points or electrical points
- You are planning renovation or electrical upgrades
For electrical work and wiring checks, it is important to use a suitably qualified person. Malaysia’s Energy Commission guidance states that residential electrical wiring work is to be supervised and tested by a Wireman with the appropriate restriction.
