Going Back to Sabah for Holiday? Check Your Electrical System First

The September school holiday was coming, and Mr Tommy was getting ready to bring his family back to Sabah for a few days of balik kampung. Before leaving, he started thinking about his home electrical system. Recently, whenever there was heavy rain or a thunderstorm, the electricity at home would suddenly trip. Sometimes the living room would lose power, sometimes the autogate would stop working, and once even the refrigerator stopped running until he reset the electrical supply.

Tommy was worried because this time the family would be away for several days. If the electricity tripped again while nobody was at home, he might only find out after coming back from Sabah. A refrigerator could spoil, the autogate might not work, and other electrical appliances could be affected.

So, before leaving for his holiday, Tommy contacted Tronica Engineering Services to inspect the electrical system at his home.

Why Does the Electricity Trip When It Rains?

Our team checked the electrical distribution board (DB box), circuit breakers, RCCB, main switch, wiring, earthing system and several important electrical points around the house.

The inspection found that some of the electrical components had been used for many years and the DB box needed better organisation. The earthing system also needed to be checked and improved. When a house keeps tripping during heavy rain or thunderstorms, it is better to find out the actual cause instead of simply switching the MCB or RCCB back on every time.

Rain and moisture can sometimes affect outdoor electrical points, water heaters, wiring and other equipment. During thunderstorms, voltage surges can also affect electrical appliances. If the electrical protection and earthing system are not in good condition, the home may be more vulnerable to electrical problems.

Electrical Inspection and DB Box Upgrade

To help Tommy feel more comfortable before leaving for Sabah, Tronica Engineering Services replaced the old electrical components that required attention and reorganised the DB box. We also checked and improved the earthing system according to the condition of the house.

A surge protection device (SPD) was also recommended to help protect the home’s electrical system and appliances from sudden voltage surges. After completing the work, we tested the main electrical points, lights, sockets, refrigerator supply, autogate and other important circuits to make sure everything was working properly.

A few days later, Tommy and his family were ready to balik kampung to Sabah. This time, he could leave home with greater peace of mind. Instead of worrying about whether the house would trip during a thunderstorm, he could enjoy his school holiday with his family.
